It’s finally over

I am relieved that it’s all over.  Forget about who won or lost.  It’s time to turn off the TV and continue living life.  One of the best things we can do today is to pray for our leaders – political leaders, church leaders, our bosses, our children’s teachers and school administrators.

I have heard many people these past weeks and months, from the media, to friends, to political or religious leaders and organizations, speaking about the gloom and doom that seems to be around us right now and what we may be headed for – in our finances, our laws, our values, our freedoms, etc.  I take heart in knowing that God is in control and His plans are sure.

God is not a Republican or a Democrat, and I am not sure that he is really concerned with a lot of things that we concern ourselves with.  God is concerned with justice, righteousness, compassion and mercy  (Micah 6:8).  He desires for all to be saved – to recognize we are lost sinful people who need a savior.  God wants for all to be touched and changed by the love of Jesus Christ.  And he desires for those of us who know him to focus on the things that are most important to Him – not political issues, but eternal issues.  Loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and loving others as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.  Making disciples and loving others, not just in words, but in actions, with the love of Christ is the fruit of our love for God.

So no matter who you voted for, lets shift our focus from the politics and the politicians and focus back on God who is our provider, our strength, our joy, our comfort, our hope, our salvation.  Who can you show God’s love to today?

Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
